Nathan Tolzmann composed and recorded "Dark Airing" as the soundtrack to the installation "Dark Airing" by artist David Hamlow.

For the opening reception on December 1, 2018, at ArtStart (Rhinelander, Wisconsin) the soundtrack was silenced and Tolzmann created a live variation of the musical piece. No recording was made of the performance.

Tolzmann went into Clampdown Studios and recreated the piece for an audience of microphones while the memory of the premier performance was still fresh in his mind. "Dark Airing Variations" is the document of that performance.
